CU SPORTS MEDIA: “THAT PLACE IS GONNA BE JUMPIN”
Some projects start with a creative brief. This one started with a gut feeling.
I had just joined CU Sports Media as a creative intern, fresh off being granted access to the archived game footage. No one had assigned me anything yet. I was still getting my bearings—learning workflows, meeting people, figuring out where I could make the biggest impact. Then, one night, I was watching TV when Michael Irvin came on the screen.
He was talking about CU’s massive win over TCU, the defending national championship contenders, and said something that grabbed me immediately:
“That place gonna be jumping next week.”
It was hype. It was proud. It was loud. And I knew instantly: This is it. This is the hook. I could already hear the edit in my head.
I opened up the vault of footage and just started pulling clips. I wanted this video to feel like a celebration—but not just of the win. I wanted it to hype the next game. I wanted it to capture the anticipation, the pride, the culture of Folsom Field and the energy CU fans were riding high on. I built it around Irvin’s soundbite—syncing clips to his cadence, matching the tone of his voice to moments of intensity, excitement, and build-up. It was part rally cry, part cinematic teaser, part love letter to Buff Nation.
This was the first project I did entirely on my own without being asked. I worked through the weekend, making sure it felt just right. Then I brought it to Serena Archer, who leads the CU Sports Media team. She loved it. Gave me a couple small notes, I tweaked it, and we went live.
The response was incredible. Hundreds of thousands of views. Comments rolling in. The kind of engagement that makes people feel something—not just because the game was exciting, but because the video made it feel even bigger than it already was.
This was a big moment for me, not just because of how well the post performed, but because it showed me something important: when you follow your instincts and just make the thing, amazing things can happen. No one asked for this video. I just heard a phrase, got inspired, and ran with it!
