CU SPORTS MEDIA: CU VS CSU VOLLEYBALL RIVALRY GAME
Covering the CU vs. CSU volleyball rivalry match was a standout moment from my time with CU Sports Media. I was the only intern on the trip, which meant full creative control—no set expectations outside of the core highlight clips. That freedom gave me the opportunity to approach the edit with a fresh perspective and build something more layered than the standard recap.
After clearing the track with my team lead, I dove into crafting the piece. It’s a visual-effects-heavy edit with stylized pacing, custom sound design, and a deliberate narrative break in the middle. Rather than just stacking highlight after highlight, I chose to intercut trophy celebration moments midway through to give the viewer a beat to process the energy and re-engage. While not everyone agreed with that choice structurally, I still think it gave the video an intentional rhythm and a different kind of momentum.
This project also marked one of the first times I seriously focused on integrating original sound design into my edits. From the ambient crowd noise to the textural hits timed to transitions, it helped elevate the viewing experience and add a layer of depth to an otherwise fast-paced reel
